What is transcoding?
When you upload an MP3 file to Audiorista, it is usually stuck in the "Transcoding" state for some minutes. Transcoding means converting the MP3 file to another format, HLS, which is optimized for streaming. We also apply AES-128 encryption, to keep your content safe.
Why does transcoding sometimes take longer than usual?
Transcoding-time is primarily related to the amount of transcodings being performed in parallel (by all clients of the platform), and secondarily to the length of the audio. Our baseline goal is 5 minutes wait-time, but the actual time may be longer at usage peaks.
How can I speed up the transcoding?
We may introduce more options around this further down the line to speed up the processing (playing MP3s directly instead of HLS, dedicated transcoding queues for clients), but currently our offering centers around delivering good streaming-performance and protecting the content using encryption, which adds extra steps to our pipeline.
